Weekend wrap: Live and let Dye

Is anybody in baseball hotter than Jermaine Dye?

On June 14, Dye's were a modest 10 HR and 27 RBI.

Yawn.

In fact, I was contemplating dropping the White Sox slugger for streaky all-or-nothing power monger  Russell Branyan of the Brewers.

Exhibit A on why the move you don't make can save your season.

In the last week, Dye has ripped 6 HR and 15 RBI, over 50 percent of his previous power production for the year. All in one week. His average has gone from .281 to .297.

No surprise, he's the No. 1 ranked Yahoo! player for the past week.

The only Dye owners who haven't been completely overwhelmed with the 34-year-old slugger would be White Sox fans, who watched their North Side counterparts break out the brooms thanks in part to the second hottest hitter on the planet, Aramis Ramirez.

Fantasy Spin: Dye, much like the hitter's row of White Sox who disappointed owners greatly in 2007, struggled with 28-78-.254 numbers. While 28 long balls isn't Swiss cheese, owners expected more in the RBI/avg. department and he bounced around the waivers some. Don't expect a return to those insane 2006 numbers (44-120-.315), but you could easily get a 33-100-.285 final line. Nothing to sneeze at. But today may be the best sell-high day you'll ever see for Dye - or any player - so don't be shy to shop him.
